Hi Shirley,

I appreciate that you want to protect yourself, but insisting on an in-home visit won't help. In fact, the most common burial insurance scams are committed by agents who meet people in their homes.

Here are a few things for you to consider:

  • When you use Google to find a company(s), you won't be offered companies that will scam you. Only legitimate insurance businesses are found when you search on Google.
  • You can validate that a company is licensed by calling your state department of insurance.
  • You can look for online reviews for any business. If the company is legitimate, it should have a healthy number of online reviews (especially positive ones).
  • Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the company is accredited and whether it has complaints.

If you check these things out, you will 100% not be the victim of identity theft or someone who steals money from your bank account. It would be far, far safer than simply trusting someone because they came to your home.
